Wills Pub
Mon, 2009-04-20 13:49 — coryWills Pub is a small venue just north of downtown Orlando. The venue has a large selection of import beers. The venue does not have air conditioning, which is highly unusual for any business in Florida. There are plenty of fans around though, which helps mitigate the otherwise unbearable Florida heat.
The venue is divided into two sections: The main bar area, and the band area. The main bar area has a good selection of games to accompany it's large selection of brews. The band area is in a separate, sound-insulated, room.
Obituary
Originally founded as Xecutioner in 1985, Obituary is one of the pioneers of Death Metal. Obituary is arguably the definitive Florida Death Metal band, sticking to the styles that have come to define what the vast majority of Florida Death Metal bands are.
The band was broken up in 1997, only to re-form 6 years later.
Morbid Angel
Morbid Angel are pioneers in Death Metal. Originating in Tampa, FL in 1984, Morbid Angel is one of the very first Death Metal bands ever, and has carved a path for the genre like few others.
The ever-changing roster of Morbid Angel has been a veritable "who's who" of Death Metal musicians for the last 25 years. Erik Rutan, Mike Browning, Steve Tucker, and Jared Anderson are all Morbid Angel alumni.
Hate Eternal
Hate Eternal formed in 1997 by Erik Rutan as a side project from his other commitment, Morbid Angel. The original lineup included Jared Anderson, Tim Yueng, and Doug Cerrito.
The band has had it's share of accomplishments and setbacks in it's history. Lineup changes have plagued the band, as has the death of Jared Anderson in 2006.
Cannibal Corpse
Cannibal Corpse is arguably the most successful Death Metal band in history. Originating in 1987 from Buffalo, NY, the founding members quickly moved to Tampa, FL to build their future. That turned out to be a good decision, and the band quickly recorded some of the most controversial songs of modern times.
The amount of negative publicity garnered by Cannibal Corpse is likely unmatched by any other Death Metal band.
Six Feet Under
Six Feet Under was formed in 1993 by then Cannibal Corpse singer, Chris Barnes and Allen West (Obituary). Six Feet Under has produced 9 full length albums to date. Six Feet Under is one of the larger Death Metal bands in the country, enjoying a level of success not common to the genre.
SFU's 'sound' is usually less technical than most modern Death Metal bands, and owes more to Thrash Metal.
Atheist
Atheist is considered one of the more eclectic bands of the early Death Metal era. Formed in 1984, they released only 3 albums from 1988 to 1992. The band disbanded after that. Recently though, the band has reunited for touring purposes, though no new albums are slated.
Atheist incorporated more musical influences than most Death Metal bands, espescially in that era.
Massacre
Massacre never really got off to anything much more than a few demo tapes turned albums. Their first album, "From Beyond", is a classic example of early nineties Tampa area Death Metal. Recorded at the legendary Morrisound Studios, "From Beyond" is a good sampling of the earliest Death Metal ventures. Massacre didn't last long. Their later albums were much less heavy.
Whtn the focus was lost, most of the band went to a later version of Death.
Malevolent Creation
Malevolent Creation is originally from Buffalo, NY and was formed in 1988. They quickly moved to Florida, to be part of the growing scene there.
