Atheist is considered one of the more eclectic bands of the early Death Metal era. Formed in 1984, they released only 3 albums from 1988 to 1992. The band disbanded after that. Recently though, the band has reunited for touring purposes, though no new albums are slated.

Atheist incorporated more musical influences than most Death Metal bands, espescially in that era. Some of the music is reminiscent of jazz, and evin latin influences.
