The Grand Partition, And The Abrogation Of Idolatry

The Grand Partition, And The Abrogation Of Idolatry is the latest release from the from Success Will Write Apocalypse Across The Sky (SWWAATS). It's also their first release on Nuclear Blast records, and took over a year to finalize after lineup changes delayed the recording of the album. The wait was worth it though: James Murphy's production of the band is amazing.

SWWAATS has made amazing songs before, but James has definitely helped the band tame the energy of their songs into something more cohesive. That's not to say the album is lame, or 'commercially accessible'. The Grand Partition hits like a sledgehammer to the face. The difference now though, is the sledgehammer is much more distinct than it was before.

The album opens with '10,000 Sermons, 1 Solution' - a song riddled with unbridled intensity. Fans of 'Cattle' will be pleased with the opener. Speaking of 'Cattle', the band re-recorded both the infamous 'Cattle', as well as a slowed down version of 'A Path'. Both songs sound familiar, but have a very distinctly new twist to them.

In similar fashion to the bands 'Subhuman Empire' album, there are tracks of sampled despair as well. 'Retrograde And The Annointed' is an excellent example of an unexpected lull in the action. The break in the mix is definitely refreshing, and helps the listener remember the theme of the record: misery.
